About us

BACK TO ORGANIC FARMING. BACK TO GOOD, NATURAL FOOD.

At Ådal Ørred, we want to return to our roots and raise fish naturally, with respect for nature, the fish and the people who eat them.

Our purpose at Ådal Ørred is simple. We want to produce great-tasting, natural and fresh fish that can be enjoyed with a clear conscience.

That is why, throughout the entire process – from farming to harvesting and delivery – we focus on food quality, the environment, climate and animal welfare.

DEMAND FOR FISH IS RISING – THE OCEANS ARE STRUGGLING TO KEEP UP

According to the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), the average person worldwide consumes 20 kg of fish per year – almost twice as much as 50 years ago. Due to the growing demand for fish, more fish are now being caught than the oceans can replenish.

We believe that fish should continue to have an important place on our plates, but at the same time, we need to take good care of our oceans. That is why we believe fish farming is necessary if we are to provide the world’s population with healthy, protein-rich food in the form of fish. With Ådal Ørred, we aim to make fresh, organic fish more readily available while maintaining a farming method that is as natural as possible.

125 YEARS OF PROUD FISH-FARMING TRADITION

Trout has a long tradition in Danish fish farming, as it is well suited to our climate and thrives in freshwater.

Trout and trout eggs have been at the heart of our family’s fish-farming business for more than 125 years. Both the farm and the dedication to fish farming have now been passed down through four generations. We continue to build on that experience with Ådal Ørred, our certified organic trout farm.

FOCUS ON FOOD QUALITY – NATURAL AND FRESH

At the heart of what we do is the production of a good, natural product. We place great emphasis on freshness, great taste and high nutritional quality. Full traceability is essential at our certified organic trout farm. Our trout are fed organic feed rich in fishmeal and fish oil, which contributes to high levels of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. We do not use artificial colouring, and we follow strict guidelines for the use of medicines in organic fish farming.

LOCAL PRODUCTION AND PROCESSING – A SHORT JOURNEY FROM WATER TO TABLE

With our large-scale local production, we have a strong local supply and excellent opportunities to scale. We are able to supply fresh trout on a regular basis, ensuring that you can always enjoy our fish at its freshest. Our processing facility is located close to the farm, which means extremely short transport times. The trout go directly from the water to the processing facility, and within a short time, fresh fish can be ready to serve at the dinner table.

RESPECT FOR NATURE AND THE CLIMATE

Being able to maintain a natural approach to fish farming was an important part of our decision to return to organic farming. Our trout are raised with plenty of space, low stocking densities, optimal oxygen levels and access to a natural pond bottom, creating conditions that are as close to their natural environment as possible.

At the same time, we have incorporated environmental considerations into our operations and have an ambitious plan to reduce our energy consumption and transition to greater use of renewable energy.

OUR COMMITMENT TO BETTER ANIMAL WELFARE

Being able to maintain a natural approach to fish farming was an important part of our decision to return to organic farming. Our trout are raised with plenty of space, low stocking densities, optimal oxygen levels and access to a natural pond bottom, creating conditions that are as close to their natural environment as possible. These are all requirements for organic fish farming that do not apply to conventional fish farming.

There are also specific requirements for the health and welfare of the fish. This means that our farm is inspected by a veterinarian at least twice a year, and strict rules apply to the use of medicines in our fish.

FOOD QUALITY AT THE HEART OF WHAT WE DO – HEALTHY AND FRESH

A good, natural product is at the heart of everything we do. For us, this means ensuring that the fish is fresh, tastes great and provides beneficial, healthy nutrients. It also means full traceability, which is a requirement for certified organic fish farms.

Our trout are fed organic feed with an especially high content of fishmeal and fish oil. This means that they have particularly high levels of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. We do not use artificial colouring, and strict requirements apply to the use of medicines in organic fish farming.
